For most Reform Jews, Tisha B’Av is something you’d only experience at summer camp, and that’s because it’s the only holiday over the summer. What can this fast day, commemorating the destruction in Jerusalem and other Jewish tragedies, mean for us? Together, on this Tisha B’Av, we will engage with the Book of Lamentations to explore how the Jewish people have expressed their feelings of loss and mourning. In our own challenging moment, might our ancestors’ sorrow speak to us deeply and provide a sense of communal catharsis?
