Join us for an evening at The Straz Center for the critically acclaimed smash-hit Broadway musical The Band’s Visit. Winner of 10 Tony Awards®, including Best Musical, making it one of the most Tony-winning musicals in history. It is also a Grammy Award® winner for Best Musical Theater Album.
The eight Egyptian musicians who comprise the Alexandria Ceremonial Police Orchestra arrive by mistake in a small town in Israel’s Negev Desert. Their booking set for a different city, and with no transportation out of the town or any hotels to stay at, the band settles at a restaurant owned by Dina (Ronit Elkabetz), who offers them lodging. Overcoming ethnic barriers, the Egyptians find diversion and companionship with the Israelis through a pervading undercurrent of shared melancholy.
Seats are Orchestra-level and our group will be seated together. Following the show, you may choose to attend an exclusive dessert reception, sponsored by Dr. Barry Levine, Gina D’Angelo, and the Straz, with a post-performance discussion of the show’s message from one of the NY-based production staff and possible cast members.
Ticket sales close Monday, January 3. Transportation will be provided from the temple to the show and back.
Rabbi Simon will lead a discussion the week before the play that will be open to all, whether or not you are joining our group at the Straz Center.
