6:00 PM – Movie and Discussion
“Encanto” tells the story of the “girl with no apparent gift” Mirabel (Stephanie Beatriz), who tries her best to fit in a family where everyone other than her has an incredible, magical gift, but without the power to change the weather, shapeshift, or talk to animals, that can be hard. Mirabel notices the family’s magical house is starting to show cracks, but no one believes her and downplays her worries as something her estranged eccentric uncle Bruno (John Leguizamo) would say. It’s up to Mirabel to find out what’s happening to save both her family and her home. This colorful Combian-inspired film is great for the whole family with catchy songs by Lin Manuel-Miranda and a powerful message about self-acceptance and family.
Rabbi Weiss will briefly discuss the Jewish approach to open communication in families and there will be a chance for discussion after the movie.
No charge for dinner.
