Being the Grown-Ups Creative Kids Need
Wednesday, April 14, 7:30 PM (Yom HaZikaron)
Let’s chat about boundaries, power struggles, empathetic communication, and some important things your creative kid needs to hear from you (and some things they don’t). Bring a post-it note, favorite crayons (or pen or pencil), and an open heart and mind. Parent, artist, and educator Jo-Ellen Unger will share her thoughts about supporting young people as they explore their passions. As Founding Director of URJ 6 Points Arts Academy, Jo-Ellen has straddled the worlds of Jewish Education and the Arts throughout her education and career.

Mental Health: Building Resilience and Grit
Wednesday, April 21, at 7:30 PM
Our children have been through a lot this year and have faced many disappointments and challenges. What does it take to build resilience and grit in these times? What are the pandemic’s long-term effects on our children’s mental health, and what can we do now to support and care for them? Bobby Harris, Director of URJ Camp Coleman and lifelong educator, will draw on his experience working with campers and processing grief while finding moments of joy and celebration.

Previous Sessions:

Sports Parenting 101 – Wednesday, March 31, at 7:30 PM
Children who play sports face so much stress and anxiety, not just from opponents, coaches, and the sport itself. Often, the adults, the parents of the athlete, add to the obstacles and pressures with their actions and behavior. In this class, you will hear from parenting experts, professional coaches, and educators about the best way to support and encourage your child on their athletic journey. Join Danny Herz, Director of URJ 6 Points Sports Academy and the strongest voice in Jewish athletics in North America, for this engaging and fast-moving session. Click here to watch on YouTube.

Talking About Violence in Video Games – Wednesday, April 7, at 7:30 PM
Do you ever wonder about the psychological and behavioral effects of violence in video games? Do you ever feel frustrated, disturbed, or disappointed by what you see on your child’s screen? Do you feel a little in over your head when you try to chat about controllers and consoles? Let’s talk about it! Together we will explore what violence in video games and Judaism have to say to one another. You will leave this session with data and statistics, a greater understanding of gaming culture, and some conversational tools to help you empower your child to make values-based decisions about the type of gamer they want to be. Join Jayme Dale Mallindine, Games Studies Scholar and Director of URJ 6 Points Sci-Tech Academy East and Rabbi Dan Medwin, parent and Director of Digital Media for the CCAR, for this important discussion.
