Welcome to Congregation Schaarai Zedek’s Thursday morning service. At this service, Lila Star will be becoming a Bat Mitzvah. While many b’nai mitzvah services occur on Shabbat (Saturday morning), this occasion can be marked on any morning when Torah is read, which includes Monday and Thursday which were market days in ancient Israel.
This Jewish celebration of young adulthood is much more than a party. The Bat Mitzvah, (literally child of the commandment), takes on a new understanding of responsibility and obligation, in their lives and in the Jewish community. This is not the end of their Jewish studies, but rather a commitment to continue to study and embrace their Judaism not only through Confirmation, but throughout their lives and with their future families.
Lila Star has worked very hard to get to this day, and on behalf of her parents, Courtney and Larry, I want to thank you for joining us for this special occasion.
L’Shalom u-Veracha – Wishing you all a day that is filled with blessing and peace,
Rabbi Joel Simon Rabbi Michael Weiss Cantor Deborrah Cannizzaro
