"To Repair The World"
Members of all ages are encouraged to join and participate in congregation Schaarai Zedek’s Social Action Committee. Leading the charge to perform community service, the committee works with various local agencies such as Metropolitan Ministries, Habitat For Humanity, The Spring (shelter for battered women), Jewish food bank, and a host of others. Our congregants serve in soup kitchens, stock the food bank pantry, lend a hand “Blitz Building” homes and many other activities which contribute to improving the quality of life in the Tampa Bay area for those less fortunate.
The work of the Social Action Committee reflects Schaarai Zedek’s commitment to our community. Together with the religious school, the Social Action Committee helps to coordinate our annual “Mitzvah Day”. Throughout the year food donations are collected and delivered to the Jewish Food Bank located on the JCC / Federation campus.
Each month the Social Action Committee spotlights a deserving agency to be the recipient of the “Mitzvah of the Month” appeal, broadcast throughout the congregation. Where ever and when ever the opportunity arises to perform “good deeds” the members of the Social Action Committee will gladly participate.

Senior Mitzvah Corp
“Calling all Seniors”…Help Clergy and get involved within and outside our Congregation and community. We are in the developing stages of forming a new group called “Senior Mitzvah Corp”. This group will be involved in volunteer projects at the Temple and special projects outside the Temple. For more information please call the Temple office and be a part of this meaningful program that will combine direct hands-on involvement in areas that need the energy, dedication, and love that seniors can provide with programs which help our synagogue and Tampa Bay area. Once again, we will work with Wesley Memorial Methodist Church in Town & Country to prepare and serve Christmas Dinner for those in need.
We will work from 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. to prepare, serve and clean up.
