Bar/Bat Mitzvah Education

A Bar or Bat Mitzvah student trains privately with the Educator for approximately nine months to learn his/her Torah and Haftarah portions. Simultaneously, there is an additional Sunday B’nai Mitzvah Club designed to help the student master prayerbook Hebrew. The combined training enables our students to become full participants in Reform synagogue services anywhere in the world. A student who has a Bar/Bat Mitzvah is expected to complete his/her Religious School education through the ninth grade and Confirmation.

For a family whose children enroll in our religious school for the first time, or attend Hillel School, special Bar/Bat Mitzvah eligibility requirements apply. No Bar/Bat Mitzvah date will be set until these requirements are met. Please ask the Educator to explain what these are. Parents will be asked to sign an acknowledgement of having received this information and agreeing to comply.

If your child, for any reason, becomes thirteen years old before entering our seventh grade, an appointment with the Educator to discuss your child’s Bar or Bat Mitzvah training is necessary.
