Gesher L'Mishpachah

Gesher L'Mishpachah (Bridge to the Family) is a Jewish family project. By completing 18 "chai" simple activities from a list of more than 70 items, a family's Jewish identity may be enhanced and strengthened while having Jewish family fun! The Gesher L'Mishpachah program is designed to be voluntary, with each family fulfilling its own requirements. The families who complete 18 activities (six from each area) are honored at a special Gesher Graduation Recognition at Family Shabbat Services in May. Gesher graduates' names are engraved on a special plaque that hangs outside of our Religious School Office. Many of our families have chosen to re-enroll year after year.

During the Religious School year, Gesher families choose activities from the list provided in a Gesher booklet. These activities are divided into the categories of Torah (study), Avodah (worship), and G'milut Chasadirn (loving deeds). One credit point is awarded for each activity completed by the family. With the completion of six points from each of the three categories (18 total), a family will cross the Gesher "bridge" and graduate.

In Hebrew numerology, the number 18 means "chai" or life. It is by enjoying our Jewish heritage every day that life is enriched by our faith and that Jewish bridges are built from one generation to the next.
