A Bar or Bat Mitzvah student trains privately with the Cantor or Educator for approximately nine months to learn his or her Torah and Haftarah portions. Simultaneously, there is an additional Sunday B'nai Mitzvah Club designed to help the student master prayerbook Hebrew. The combined training enables our students to become full participants in Reform synagogue services anywhere in the world. A student who has become a Bar or Bat Mitzvah is expected to complete his or her Religious School education through the Ninth Grade Confirmation.
If a child, for any reason, becomes thirteen years old before entering our seventh grade, an appointment with the Cantor to discuss the child's Bar or Bat Mitzvah training is necessary.
