Adult learning opportunities are many and varied throughout the year at Congregation Schaarai Zedek. In the fall, Rabbi Birnholz teaches an "Introduction to Judaism" course for those interested in converting to Judaism or wishing to expand their knowledge of basic Judaism. Our Rabbis and Cantor also each teach a Spring Study Series on topics of Jewish interest. Rabbi Simon holds a Saturday morning Torah Study. We hold a Saturday morning Torah study group (Parashat Ha Shavua) for those who wish to discuss the weekly Torah portion. Congregants with special expertise teach courses in Bible, Hebrew, and current events as well.
Special adult learning events exposed our congregants to innovative and informative ideas in the contemporary Jewish world. Each year, Schaarai Zedek and Congregation Rodeph Sholom, our Conservative neighbor, co-sponsor the Nathan I. Gordon & Sam and Ellie Fishman Scholar-in Residence weekend. The annual Kotler Lecture also brings in outstanding speakers on contemporary Jewish topics to Schaarai Zedek.
